TVB

Pinhole camera

Today, I passed thou’ PageOne in Tsim Sha Tsui, I found this toy for kids. This is one of the items in the series “Kids Lab”.
This is not just a toy, this is a real camera. If you wanna try to take pinhole image, you may buy this camera because it gives you convenience and great enjoyment at cheap price, the selling price is HKD100. On the other hand, it is a good illustration to teach people how camera works, how to take the images.
It uses 135mm film, which means you are not required to develop the film in darkroom, just pass the films to the developing film shops and digitalize the films. In long term, you save a lot of time and money in developing the films.

zero2000Deluxe2

Eventually, I found buyers to buy all my equipment. Today was my last day to keep them.

Lenses: Nikon AIS 50mm f/1.4 , AF 24mm f/2.8
These 2 lenses are very sharp and good for landscape. I sold to a guy in 2nd hand market.

Camera: FM2 + 35-70mm f/2.8-4
This set I sold to my church mate under market price. Honestly, I am afraid that she doesn’t know how to use and too heavy because FM2 is full manual camera. I hope she like it, or else, if she finds difficulties, she can resell to me.
FM2 is extremely good for beginner.

My Love, Hasselblad Xpan II + 45mm
This camera was the most expensive item I spent in my life, even MUCH more expensive than my laptop (It is talking about 2 laptops exchange 1 Xpan2). This is a rangefinder camera with dual format, you can take 2 frames (1 frame is 24mm x 35mm, 2 frames are 24mm x 69mm) at once. We call it as “panorama”.

Remark: The production line of Xpan has been ceased. Only in 2nd hand market you may find. Also, the official website of Xpan.com was not working, it has been forward to hasselblad.com and I couldn’t find any news about Xpan in Hasselblad already. Sound likes disappearing…..

The only official website I could find is his twin brother, TX2 of FujiFilm.

Finally, I made a decision to give up film and change back to digital.
I used “back” because my first camera was digital – Nikon Coolpix 5000. Buying this camera was for travel.
At that year, I took a creative workshop – photography in UST. Lecturer spent 2 lessons to teach us making a pinhole camera by paper. The concept was extremely simple. You just need a dark-Box, no light can entry in the box except a hole in front and located a light-sensitive material at the back. This is what we called – pinhole camera.
At the beginning, we used photo-paper as light sensitive material, ISO 12, that’s why you may notice one of my photo in flikr took me a 4 hours to finish, but still failed. After developing the sense on metering (Light), we used film, I was astonished by the quality of films.
As a result, I resold my DC and bought a full manual camera Nikon FM2 to learn photography by myself.
By learning pinhole photography, you would learn a lot of useful skill and many concepts, especially developing the senses on angel of view because of no view finder, the concept of “depth of field”, and your sensitivity on light. I strongly recommend people who really want to learn photography, start with Pinhole, extremely useful.

Film has been engulfing by digital gradually, many camera and film factories have announced the film’s business was closed. I totally understand the reason, for example, the cost on taking 1 roll of slide, equal to the cost of slide (HKD35) + Developing (HKD30) + scanning(20), which is around HKD90 + time cost.
How about digital? You know the answer immediately.

2) Photo taken by Pinhole camera using T-max film.

They read my photos thou’ flickr and then send me an invitation. I really recommend people to use flickr to share your photos, many cool photographers are using this to do so, I am just an amateur photographer, you may click my contact list in flickr, so that you view great photos taken by geniuses.

The following is a brief introduction of the Spotlight:

When I surffed the Flickr Blog, I found someone who made a Pinhole Camera using Lego.

Camera is just a dark box with a hole in the front. If u place light sensitive materials inside, it is silver halide usually, then u can capture images throught the hole. Therefore, no matter what materials to make the box, the only requirement is “Light sealed”.

I like this design very much because it is easy to make the camera in comparsion with wood and metal. Also, it is good for us to use 35mm films. Bravo!!

If you want to read the details of the camera, pls visit here.
